HYUN (b. 1997, Seoul, South Korea) is a New York-based painter whose process-driven practice engages abstraction through instability, layering, and material resistance. At the core of her work is an interest in how the surface becomes active through perception, presence, and physical encounter.
Working with acrylic paint alongside unconventional materials such as discarded packaging, paper towels, worn textiles, and dried paint fragments, Hyun constructs layered compositions through accumulation, disruption, and repetition. Her process unfolds through sustained interaction with the surface, where control and instability remain in tension.
